How To Pick The Perfect Baby Name-b.bear

Whether you’re dreaming of the future, newly pregnant, or ready to deliver, it’s never too early or too late to start your quest for the perfect baby name.

However, with the unlimited options out there, we completely understand that it can be overwhelming and hard to choose. Here are 6 suggestions to get you started!

1. Keep It In The Family

Sometimes the best names are just a generation or two away.

Family names are wonderful choices. In fact, many southern moms choose to give their firstborn their maiden name. That’s where names like Parker, Fontaine, Baker, Palmer, Mack, and Ridley have come from—to name a few.

Or maybe you have a deceased loved one that you want to honor? Passing on their name can be a beautiful way to commemorate them.

2. Explore Your Roots

Have Irish roots? Braden, Nora, or Quinn are a few names you might want to consider.

If you’re English, Welsh, Italian, or Irish, consider names of that origin. You can scan through a baby book or website to view the roots of each name and narrow down your search. This is an effective practice if you and your siblings have been named using this method—and it can possibly be a great tradition starter among your family!

3. Get Creative

Think outside the box. You never know what you'll find!

Who said you had to choose a name that already exists? If you’re not a rule follower or you like to stand out, make up your own name!

There’s really no right or wrong when it comes to picking a name… Although we do have questions for the parents who decided ‘Regret’ was the best name.

4. Go Antiquated

Many older names can also use nicknames to sound more modern. Like Ellie for Eleanor or Sam for Samuel.

Older, antiquated names are classy and timeless. They also aren’t all over the place, so you don’t have to worry about your child going to school and having the same name as everyone else.

Names like Opal, Pearl, Bronson, Clifford, and Marion are oldies but goodies! They also make cool middle names.

5. Stay Modern

If you’re a modern mom, then you may want to stay close to modern, trendy names. You can search online for the most popular names out there and you’ll get a large selection to choose from.

As of right now, the most popular girl names of 2019 are Emma, Olivia, and Isabella. While the most popular boy names are Liam, Owen, Milo, and Jack.

6. Choose for Meaning

Want a creative child? Maybe try Jolean or Althea for a girl.

Lots of parents look thoroughly into the meaning of a name, essentially hoping their child will embody it.

Maybe you had a difficult time getting pregnant? Many people choose the name Matthew for a boy since it means, “A gift from God.” If you want your child to be tough and fierce, maybe you’ll like the name Bryan, which means, “warrior.”

The Rule Of 3

No matter which method you choose, be sure to pick a name:

1. That you love

2. You think your child will love

3. That’s special to you or your spouse in some way.

Have all 3 of those boxes ticked off? You may have just found the perfect baby name!
